Hearing When You Least Expect It

At our house we frown on calling other people stupid. In a recent sermon Aron told a story in which he quoted one character calling another stupid. One of my kids, who I had no idea was tuning in at all, was delighted to tell me, "Aron said stupid! Aron said stupid!"

I wonder what else they're hearing that I wouldn't guess.

OOPS!
I suppose I can be a bit more careful on that!
We are always amazed at what Eliot picks up on from time to time!
A+

Not to worry.
Generally our message to our kids isn't that a given word should never be said, but that before you use some words you have to be especially careful that you understand what they mean and be able to understand when it may be okay to use them and when it's not. If you use them the wrong way or wrong time they can be very hurtful and offensive. There are some words that you're not going to be able to understand about well enough to make those decisions until you're older. Of course that means we limit our kid's exposure to some words - but the more important thing is that they learn appropriate limits for their own speech, not that they never happen to hear a word beyond those limits.
